7 Days Toward Weave Entry Agility Training

Great agility runs aren’t produced with sweeping overhauls, but they are created one small moment at a time. My small but powerful moment came after an intensive seminar where my dog kept missing his weave pole entries…again. This missing link had cost me plenty of qualifying runs and now I was spending precious time working this item when all I really wanted to do was to focus on the more advanced material.

That was the moment I knew something had to change and it was time to turn a thoughtful eye inward and figure out what was going on.

What I realized was that I needed to stop managing the entries (and train them!) and that my dog didn’t need weave work (he was a great weaver!), he needed weave entry agility training! Since there wasn’t an online resource available to help me, I chose to create one for myself.

When I was done, I had not only trained through the problem, but I was able to turn my weave issue into a solid competitive advantage. I had created a skill set that most of my friends & competitors weren’t interested in training because they thought it would be tedious, boring and require a complete rework of their current weave work!

That was great news because in a world where agility run’s are defined by 100’s of a second, I just found a place to shave off time. Plus, my dog loved the weaves more than ever and our weave confidence was now through the roof!

So how do you know if you would benefit from weave entry agility training?

  • Does your dog miss the first 3 poles of the weave entry? Has it cost you any qualifying runs?
  • Is your dog a great weaver…once they are in the poles?
  • When planning course strategy, is being at the weaves an important place you need to be?
  • Do you find yourself concerned about your dog getting into the weave poles?
  • Does your dog go around the poles?

If you said YES to any of the above, like me, you could definitely use the addition of this specific skill set!

If I could share one piece of personal advice, I’d tell you not to spend time (years?) trying to manage your dog’s weaves. I wish someone had come to me and said “For the cost of 2.5 runs and about 2 weeks of training, you can fix this!”

I can’t tell you what a relief it is to be able to say weave entries, even challenging ones, are now my friend!

Happy Handling
